The “Albergo Diffuso“ Il Borgo Ospitale succeeded in the noble intention of recovering in full compliance with the tradition architecture traditions, old houses remain empty, making them accessible to visitors wishing to live those spaces-that was given new life-as if they were locals.
To do so, we choose the most interesting and valuable buildings and structures. Those who, in the process of redevelopment of old town, owned a centuries-old stone walls lived true, where thick could talk to guests, embracing them and making them feel perfectly integrated in the community.
The renovations have faithfully recovered the spaces, using poor materials such as wood, enhancing both the unique work of local artisans who, using an approach that has its roots in the distant past, are among the few keepers of ancient techniques of craftsmanship, which in this way can be saved from oblivion some where I would force the modernity.
The apartments are located in the focal points of the country, thus allowing a full immersion in the slow pace on a human scale of the settlement of Rotonda . The result, coming, is an intense experience in direct contact with the most authentic expressions of local culture, rich in traditions and rituals out of time.
During the stay, our guests will have the opportunity to:
- visit the company on "Parker at the table", a manufacturer of jams and preserves made with exclusive DOP red Eggplant and other local products.
- in summer Lavender Park (lavender cultivation and processing)
- visit organic agricultural company and product tasting
- visit the paleontological museum of Pollino and the Ecomuseum of the Pollino National Park
- hike on the pollino (included in the UNESCO Global geoparks network) and the great outdoors.
- participate, from 8 to 13 June each year, the Festival Round FIR, pagan religious rituals, where large logs are pulled from 13 pairs of oxen (marriage between a Beech and a fir tree to symbolize rebirth and fertility)
- do taste experiences with nice housewives who teach the secrets of old country cooking (example, preparing the "pizza" and bread)
- visit the artisans Stonecutters, creators of artwork derived from local stone
